Recently I went for a walk up the Kohala Coast on the northern tip of Hawaii Island. There was a closed sign at the trail head warning that portions of the coastal trail were missing. Hawaii is a living mountain and sometimes large chunks of land break loose of the island and slide and tumble into the sea. I hiked uphill instead, happy for the time to spend a day walking in the elements.
I got to thinking how fragile the whole earth system is. For example how such a thin layer of soil supports all the species of plants and animals.
I made it home for sunset and sat on the lanai with a beverage. Grateful for the beauty of the earth that day. Grateful the 4 elements were pleasant and in balance.
